This week, the Congressional Integrity Project sent a letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson. In light of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the U.S. this week for the APEC Leaders’ Meeting, the letter outlines the vast history of influence peddling and family corruption perpetrated by the Trump family in China while Trump was president, and calls on the Speaker to formally begin an investigation into this corruption.
The Congressional Integrity Project also sent a letter to the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE) requesting an immediate investigation into Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer. The request concerns Comer’s abhorrent behavior during the November 14th hearing of the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Committee on Oversight of the U.S. General Services Administration. The letter details how CIP believes Comer’s outburst and behavior is in blatant disregard of House Rule 23 of the House Code of Official Conduct, which requires that Members must “at all times behave in a manner that shall reflect creditably on the House.”
At Tuesday’s hearing, Chairman Comer responded to comments made by Representative Jared Moskowitz by viciously attacking Rep. Moskowitz in crude terms, including mocking his appearance by calling him a “Smurf,” calling Rep. Moskowitz a “liar,” and repeatedly shouting “BULLSHIT.” This meltdown would be out of place at a sporting event, it’s utterly inappropriate from the dais.

Washington Examiner: Johnson pressed to investigate Trump family over ‘extensive financial ties’ to CCP. “The Democratic-aligned Congressional Integrity Project sent a letter to Johnson on Tuesday, urging him to direct the House Oversight Committee to investigate alleged ‘family corruption’ while Trump was president. The letter, which was exclusively obtained by the Washington Examiner, comes after months of requested inquiries from the group into the Trump family, accusing the former president and his four oldest children of fraternizing with foreign adversaries. ‘Republican committee chairmen have not sent any letters, requested any information, issued subpoenas, or announced any hearings on potential investigations into the Trump family’s influence peddling and corruption despite ample evidence showing that Trump and his family profited from business with China while he was in office and engaged in direct talks, negotiations, and trade deals with the communist regime,’ the letter states.” [Washington Examiner, 11/14/23]
Louisville Courier Journal: U.S. Rep. James Comer faces ethics complaint over heated argument with Moskowitz. “In a letter to the ethics committee’s chief counsel and staff director, Kyle Hering, the interest group’s director, said Comer made ‘inaccurate statements’ and ‘viciously’ addressed Moskowitz using obscene language at the hearing of the House Oversight Committee. ‘Representative Comer’s actions are not only a violation of the public trust, but a violation of his fundamental duty as a Member of the House of Representatives to uphold the letter and spirit of the House Rules,’ Herring wrote.” [Louisville Courier Journal, 11/15/23]
Northern Kentucky Tribune (Opinion): Comer’s unrelenting quest to undo Biden curtailed by one pesky detail — the facts. “Regardless, the affair might send Comer before the House Ethics Committee. The Congressional Integrity Project, affiliated with the Democratic Party that has been keeping the heat on Comer and his investigation, has filed a complaint accusing Jamie of, essentially, conduct unbecoming a congressman. The group said Comer offered inaccurate statements and used obscene language during the back-and-forth. ‘Representative Comer’s actions are not only a violation of the public trust, but a violation of his fundamental duty as a Member of the House of Representatives to uphold the letter and spirit of the House Rules,’ the letter seeking action stated.” [Northern Kentucky Tribune, 11/17/23]
