Washington, D.C. – Last week, Devon Archer gave a transcribed interview to the House Oversight Committee on his business dealings with Hunter Biden. Conspicuously absent from the interview room was the chair of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer himself. Comer’s staff said he was too busy with events in Kentucky to be there. But that didn’t stop him from making the rounds on right-wing media, falsely calling the interview a total victory for Republicans, since Archer confirmed that President Biden wasn’t involved in any wrongdoing. Asked about it later, Comer then lied about calling into the meeting and claimed he was listening on the phone, which would’ve been impossible given his appearances in Kentucky. The bizarre lie was called out by Congressman Dan Goldman, the only member to sit for the entirety of the transcribed interview. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement.

“No-Show Jamie’s lie shows he has no credibility, and cannot be trusted to lead any serious endeavor. Comer and Jordan have found absolutely nothing on President Biden, yet they continue to constantly lie to the American people, ignoring the truth, all to protect Donald Trump and spread falsehoods about President Biden. For Comer to not even show up to the testimony, lie about being on the phone, yet continue to lie about what was said, is just pathetic. We doubt he’s even read the transcript.”
