Jordan and Chip Roy Target Alliance for Global Justice and Open Society Foundations in Latest Partisan Stunt

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressmen Jim Jordan and Chip Roy sent letters to the leaders of the Alliance for Global Justice and the Open Society Foundations demanding they preserve documents and communications — the latest step in Republicans’ ongoing war on civil society. This sham investigation, like the ones before it, is based on partisan “research” and underscores how Congressional Republicans continue manufacturing baseless claims to fuel conspiracy theories and attack organizations Donald Trump opposes.

In response, the Congressional Integrity Project released the following statement:

“Congressional Republicans are demonstrating they have nothing better to do than launch yet another baseless investigation into nonprofits while the country faces an affordability crisis caused by their government shutdown. This latest stunt will end the same way Jordan’s always do: no evidence, no smoking gun, and no apology for wasting the public’s time.

“Whether it’s phony ‘research’ from the Capital Research Center or claims conjured out of thin air, Republicans will do anything to manufacture attacks without evidence and wage a partisan witch hunt against civil society. Americans are fed up with Trump and his allies prioritizing their political vendettas over ending the shutdown — and this is just the latest example why.”
