WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a new op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, Capital Research Center President Scott Walter attempts to downplay his organization’s long-standing efforts to empower Donald Trump’s harassment of non-profits and his political opponents. But Pandora’s box has been opened, and the key was apparently a Capital Research Center report which is now being weaponized by the Trump Justice Department to punish views the President disapproves of.
In response, the Congressional Integrity Project released the following statement:
“Capital Research Center is scrambling to distance itself from its close ties to the Trump administration — the same relationship that fed into DOJ’s baseless nonprofit investigation. Scott Walter’s latest op-ed accomplishes the opposite — it underscores that CRC has been more than willing to aid and abet Donald Trump’s authoritarian behavior through reckless, baseless claims against progressive nonprofits. Scott Walter has even personally briefed Trump on ActBlue and major Democratic donors, pushing him to take action against groups and people he dislikes. This is the same Scott Walter who participated in the widely-discredited right-wing propaganda film 2000 Mules, whose creators were forced to apologize for falsely accusing a man shown in the film of breaking the law. No amount of damage control can obscure the clear link between CRC’s so-called ‘research’ and the Trump administration’s politically motivated attacks on civil society.”
