Washington D.C. – Earlier today, incoming House Oversight Chair James Comer and Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan wrote a letter outlining “the names of 40 individuals with whom the Committee will be requesting transcribed interviews” as a part of an investigation into “what the U.S. government knew regarding the origins of COVID-19 and when the government knew it.” However, missing from the list of targets are Senior Trump officials who were actually in charge when Covid originated.
In response, Congressional Integrity Project Executive Director Kyle Herrig released the following statement:
“Comer, Jordan, and the rest of the MAGA Republicans think the way to govern is by using Trump-style tactics to seek revenge and attack their enemies, regardless of the facts or the cost to the American people. If they were actually interested in investigating the origins of Covid and the government’s response, they would try to speak to the Trump Administration officials who were actually in charge at the time, starting with HHS Secretary Alex Azar and senior members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, like Larry Kudlow, Ben Carson, and so many others. But they won’t because they aren’t interested in the substance of the issue – their real interest is in launching Trump-style political attacks to gain more power for themselves and their MAGA allies.”
