Washington, D.C. – New bombshell reporting from the Daily Beast details House Oversight Chairman James Comer’s shady business deals with his brother, including land swaps and a payment of $200,000. The Comer family influence peddling on farm land and agribusiness took place while James Comer held powerful positions with oversight for farm issues in the state legislature, as Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner and as a member of the House Agriculture Committee in Congress.
Comer’s shady business deals and family influence peddling present real ethical and conflict of interest issues which demand explanation and accountability, while his year-long political stunts targeting President Biden have failed to uncover a shred of evidence of wrongdoing.
In response, Congressional Integrity Project Executive Director Kyle Herrig said the following:
“Today, we are renewing our call on James Comer to release the past ten years of his bank statements and tax returns in light of these troubling new developments. Comer has used his position of power to influence peddle, pass laws forgiving government loans for his family, and apparently change policy positions based on donations, all with a startling lack of transparency into his own financial dealings. It’s clear he and his family have benefited from his position in Congress and the American people deserve to know the truth about his shady business practices. Frankly, it’s James Comer and his corruption which needs to be investigated.”
