Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressional Integrity Project sent a letter to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer demanding he release copies of all of his tax returns and bank statements for the past ten years. This letter follows the unprecedented level of access to President Biden and his family’s finances Comer has received as part of his investigation into President Biden. Comer has only released two years of tax returns versus the 25 years that President Biden released.

The letter explains that Comer himself has a history of corruption, such as co-sponsoring a bill to forgive COVID-19 PPP loans that benefited his brother, weaponizing the government to leak a journalist’s private email and orchestrating a grand jury investigation of his political opponent, and flip-flopping his position on gambling after the CEO of Churchill Downs donated to his campaigns. The release of Comer’s bank records will shine a light on this corruption for the American people.

Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:

“James Comer has spent almost a year going through bank records of members of President Biden’s family who are private citizens, but as an elected official, he has not been transparent with his own financial records. Comer has only released two years of tax returns versus the 25 years that President Biden released. Even after going through all these records, and spending a year on interviews, hearings, and investigations, Comer has not found a single shred of wrongdoing by the President.

There is overwhelming evidence that Comer has used his own power to enrich himself and his family. We believe that the American public has much more to learn about Comer’s own wrongdoings. If James Comer really believes in the importance of transparency in rooting out corruption, then he needs to release his tax returns and bank records so the American people can see what he might be hiding.”
