Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressional Integrity Project released a new report following the news of Donald Trump’s latest indictment. The report, titled House Republicans Weaponize Congress Against Our Justice System To Defend Former President Trump From His Criminal Indictments, and Appease the MAGA Base, At All Costs, details how James Comer, Jim Jordan, and their fellow MAGA Republicans have used their positions to try to obstruct the legitimate investigations into their leader Donald Trump. In response to the new report, Congressional Integrity Project executive director Kyle Herrig said the following:
“When Donald Trump says jump, Kevin McCarthy, Jim Jordan and James Comer ask ‘how high?’ even if the demand is to use the taxpayer-funded investigative powers of House committees to act as his defense counsel. They are willing to set aside every priority the American people care about – access to affordable health care, the cost of living, and job creation – to do Donald Trump’s bidding. They have even spent months attacking law enforcement officials and calling for defunding the FBI and DOJ for doing their job and holding Trump accountable for his actions. Nobody is above the law, even Trump, and Republicans are willing to weaponize the House of Representatives to obstruct justice.”
