All this month, the Congressional Integrity Project is introducing one of Donald Trump’s staunchest allies – Representative James Comer. Just last month, the American people rejected the extreme MAGA agenda and said they want our leaders to focus on solving the real problems they face. But MAGA Republicans aren’t listening. As soon as they won the House, they immediately turned to the Trump playbook of political attacks, stunts, and partisan warfare. Investigations under the new Republican-led committees will be conducted following the Trump playbook: divisive and politically motivated attacks on President Biden, his family, and his administration at any cost, all to increase Comer’s own power to pursue the radical agenda of his MAGA allies.
Not only does James Comer support gutting Social Security and Medicare and restricting women’s reproductive rights, but he also supports taking away vital protections for millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions. Before these protections were put into place, pregnancy was often considered a pre-existing condition which means that if James Comer and fellow MAGA extremists get their way, women could be forced into both carrying unwanted pregnancies and losing their health insurance.
- Comer Voted to Take Away Healthcare Protections For Pre-Existing Conditions. During the Trump Administration, Comer voted to take away protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Comer is also a member of the extreme conservative Republican Study Committee (RSC). The RSC has proposed major budget cuts to Medicare that would “eliminate or significantly weaken health reform’s consumer protections and market reforms, especially for people with pre-existing conditions.” [U.S. House of Representatives, H.R. 1628, 5/4/17; Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, 6/16/15]
The American people rejected this extreme agenda in 2020 and 2022 but Comer is undeterred. Rather than focusing on real issues facing Americans, Comer and his MAGA Republican allies plan on using these bogus investigations in an effort to gain more power so they can impose their extreme agenda on the American people.
