New York Times: Republicans Wanted a Special Counsel Investigation of Hunter Biden. Now Many Oppose It. “‘House Republicans’ opposition to Trump appointee David Weiss’s appointment as special counsel is nothing more than another political stunt,’ said Kyle Herrig, the director of the Congressional Integrity Project, an advocacy group that defends President Biden from congressional investigations. ‘After months of calling for this, their dismay makes clear that they will stop at nothing to weaponize Congress to interfere with an ongoing investigation and harm Joe Biden.’” [New York Times, 8/12/23]

Washington Examiner: Donald Trump indicted: Democratic congressional leaders see ‘repeated pattern of criminal activity’. “In a statement, the Congressional Integrity Project, a Democratic group tasked with pushing back on House Republicans’ investigations into the Biden family, said these investigations are nothing more than an attempt by Republicans to distract America from Trump’s legal woes. ‘Kevin McCarthy, James Comer, Jim Jordan, and MAGA House Republicans will cover up, lie, and undermine the rule of law to protect Donald Trump, as sure as the sun rises in the morning,’ Congressional Integrity Project Executive Director Kyle Herrig said in a statement. ‘MAGA Republicans are disregarding every priority the American people care about — the rule of law, the peaceful transfer of power, affordable health care, the cost of living, and job creation — to do Donald Trump’s bidding.’” [Washington Examiner, 8/14/23]

Forward Kentucky: Watchdog ethics complaint says Comer lied about phoning into Hunter Biden associate interview. “A Democratic watchdog group has filed an ethics complaint against Rep. James Comer (R-Ky) for falsely claiming on Fox News that he phoned into an interview of Hunter Biden’s former business associate last month. The Congressional Integrity Project alleges that Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, ‘violated his ethical obligations’ by telling Fox News he was ‘on the phone’ during Biden associate Devon Archer’s high-profile interview with the committee. The ethics complaint was first obtained by The Messenger.” [Forward Kentucky, 8/15/23]
