Washington DC – Today, Congressional Integrity Project flew a plane with a banner over the Kentucky Derby with a message calling for his constituents to go to www.InvestigateComer.com, where they will find an article in the Louisville Courier Journal on Congressional Integrity Project’s letter to the Fayette Commonwealth Attorney’s Office. The letter asks for an investigation into Comer’s involvement in obtaining and distributing leaked emails and, if there is sufficient evidence, to charge him with a crime. Clearly, the plane got under Comer’s skin since he followed up with a 5-tweet thread. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:

“Clearly, Congressional Integrity Project is hurting Comer’s feelings. Comer responded, but didn’t bother to learn about the subject of the banner’s message. In this case, Congressional Integrity Project wasn’t attacking Comer’s investigations — but calling for an investigation of Comer for activities during his losing run for Governor in 2015. By responding, Comer helpfully brought more attention to CIP’s efforts to get the Fayetteville County Attorney’s office to investigate his involvement.”

See below for Congressional Integrity Project’s initial statement:

“Comer all but admitted to the New York Times that his gubernatorial campaign had a hand in stealing a server, hacking emails, and leaking them to intimidate a former girlfriend and to hurt his political opponent, and he needs to be investigated and held responsible for his actions. His constituents deserve to know who their Representative really is. Comer has proven himself to be vindictive and driven by revenge, even in his role as chair of the House Oversight Committee, launching baseless investigations designed to hurt President Biden, and his family, while ignoring the issues families care about. What credibility does he have to conduct oversight investigations into others when he won’t even answer for his own actions to further his political career? No one is above the law.”
