Washington, D.C. — A new report reveals the Trump administration is preparing a tax crackdown targeting a George Soros-linked nonprofit, the latest escalation in a campaign to turn federal agencies against nonprofits and civil society groups the administration disagrees with. Nonprofits the administration favors doing the same work face no comparable scrutiny.
Congressional Integrity Project Senior Adviser Jeremy Funk released the following statement:
“For years, Trump and his allies claimed to be crusaders against the weaponization of government. It was always horseshit, and now they’re proving it. Trump wants to crush dissent in a country that, more than any other on earth, has historically protected the free speech of every individual and group. But Trump is a failed president leading a failed, corrupt administration. He’s moving heaven and earth to dodge accountability for his illegal, unconstitutional actions, and he’s using his favorite boogeymen, like George Soros, to do it. The fact that nonprofits aligned with the administration doing the same work are conspicuously exempt from this same scrutiny tells you everything you need to know.”
