Washington, D.C. – Donald Trump, Mike Johnson, JD Vance, and their fellow MAGA Republicans have been setting the stage to try to overturn the results of the upcoming election if they lose while continuing to deny the 2020 results. MAGA House Republicans – led by Mike Johnson who just this weekend refused to say that President Biden won the 2020 election – have repeatedly reprised the Big Lie that the 2020 presidential race was stolen and sowed seeds of doubt about the outcome of the next month’s election.
In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director Kyle Herrig said the following:
“With less than a month until the election, Donald Trump, Mike Johnson, and MAGA Republicans are cravenly repeating election denial conspiracies. Four years ago, these election denial conspiracy theories and attacks on democracy led to the violent attack on our Capitol on January 6th. Representative Jen Kiggans has repeatedly allowed her fellow Republicans’ attacks on our democracy and the rule of law. The hard-working residents of Virginia’s 2nd district and all Americans deserve to know whether Jen Kiggans will commit now to 1) certify the 2024 election results even if Trump loses, 2) declare President Biden the winner of the 2020 election, and 3) denounce efforts by President Trump, JD Vance, Mike Johnson, and others to sow doubts about the upcoming 2024 election. Will Jen Kiggans stand with Donald Trump’s conspiracy theories or the Constitution and democracy itself?”
