Washington, D.C. – Donald Trump and his fellow MAGA Republicans have been setting the stage to try to overturn the results of the upcoming election if they lose. House Republicans have repeatedly reprised the Big Lie that the 2020 presidential race was stolen and sowed seeds of doubt about the outcome of the 2024 election. And last night, Donald Trump once again repeated the Big Lie, baselessly calling the 2020 election “rigged.” The hard-working residents of Arizona’s 1st district, and all Americans, deserve to know whether Rep. David Schweikert will commit now to accepting the 2024 election results.
In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director Kyle Herrig said the following:
“The country watched in horror on January 6th as Donald Trump’s election denial conspiracy theories led to a violent attack on the Capitol in an attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of power. Trump and his MAGA Republican sycophants have spent years laying the groundwork to overturn the next election if they lose again at the ballot box. Again and again, Representative David Schweikert has gone along with Republican attacks on our democracy and the rule of law. There is a very simple question David Schweikert needs to answer – will he commit to accepting the results of the 2024 election even if Trump loses?”
