Washington, D.C. – This week, as America approaches a government shutdown thanks to extreme MAGA Republicans’ inability to govern, James Comer is holding the first impeachment hearing, which will feature no new evidence of wrongdoing. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“MAGA Republicans have made their priorities clear: rushing an impeachment hearing with no fact witnesses and no new evidence in order to distract from the looming government shutdown entirely of their own making. In fact, Donald Trump has called for a shutdown because he mistakenly believes that it will tarnish the President, and Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and others like them are all too happy to comply. This impeachment hearing is an embarrassing attempt to distract from the fact that Republicans have the totally wrong priorities and will shut down the government instead of actually focusing on the real issues keeping working families up at night.”
