Washington, D.C. – In yet another attack on Congress’s spending authority and the rule of law, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), led by Trump crony Russell Vought, today removed public-facing federal data showing how federal appropriations are spent. This action directly contravenes the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022, which explicitly requires these apportionments be accessible to the American public.

In response, Congressional Integrity Project Senior Advisor Charlie Elsworth issued the following statement on behalf of the Checks and Balances War Room:

“The Trump Administration has been breaking spending laws for months and now they’re trying to hide the evidence. Congress specifically enacted legislation making apportionment data public in 2022 as a direct response to the first Trump administration’s illegal impoundment actions. Now Trump and Vought are flaunting their disregard for Congress and escalating their assault on our constitutional system.”

“With this action, hiding from public scrutiny, Trump and Vought can cut programs serving everyday Americans while awarding lucrative government contracts to Elon Musk-owned companies.”
