Washington, D.C. – This weekend, Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced he would pursue impeachment for Merrick Garland if Republicans don’t get the answers they want about the Hunter Biden deal from the Trump-picked US attorney investigating him. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“Kevin McCarthy has no agenda – he’s turned his speakership over to MAGA and Trump cultists like Marjorie Taylor Greene. McCarthy says he’ll pursue impeachment if he doesn’t get satisfactory answers to his questions from Merrick Garland but he and his MAGA caucus will never be satisfied with anything less than the political destruction of Joe Biden which is what this charade has always been about.
“MAGA Republicans have found nothing the least bit incriminating on President Biden and nothing even approaching an impeachable offense from any Biden Cabinet official. But they won’t let this stop them because this has never been about congressional oversight – it’s just been about politics and hurting President Biden ahead of the 2024 presidential election, all to restore their disgraced former President to office.”
