Washington, D.C. – House Oversight Chair James Comer is pushing his contempt markup of Attorney General Merrick Garland to 8pm so Oversight Republicans can take a field trip to New York to attend Trump’s trial. That’s right: not only are MAGA House Republicans ignoring the important issues facing Americans across the country, but they’re pushing their own baseless hearing to go kiss the ring at the trial where their leader is facing criminal charges for paying off a porn star to influence an election. And that’s just one of his election-interference cases.
Congressional Integrity Project executive director Kyle Herrig said the following:
“Unbelievable. To be clear, this contempt resolution shouldn’t be happening at all. It’s an egregious political stunt designed to harm President Biden and prolong an investigation in which the President was completely exonerated. The fact that Chairman Comer has decided to push this markup shows that MAGA House Republicans are completely bent to the whims of Donald Trump.”
