Washington, DC – Today, activists with the Not Above the Law coalition held a demonstration outside of Congressman-elect George Santos’ office to call out Republican hypocrisy on gutting the Office of Congressional Ethics. “With Kevin McCarthy and other MAGA Republican members having been referred to the House Ethics Committee by the January 6th Select Committee, and with new stories about blatant lies told by scammer George Santos every day, it is not surprising that House Republicans are trying to do everything they can to escape accountability for their behavior, including by gutting the Office of Congressional Ethics,” said Congressional Integrity Project Senior Advisor Brad Woodhouse. “Republicans already lacked the credibility or moral authority to conduct legitimate investigations – but if they go along with a plan to gut the Office of Congressional Ethics it will show how blatantly hypocritical and absurd their focus on ‘ethics’ really is.”
