Washington, D.C. – At this afternoon’s vote for Speaker of the House, Reps. Juan Ciscomani, David Schweikert, and 198 of their MAGA House Republicans pals endorsed Jim Jordan – an extreme MAGA Republican, conspiracy theorist, subpoena dodger, and one of the biggest threats to our democracy. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“House Republicans may not have elected Jim Jordan House Speaker on the first ballot, but nearly all of them voted for him. Jim Jordan’s top priority is to return Donald Trump to power. Any House Republican who votes for Jim Jordan as Speaker of the House is aligning themselves with his extremist views, conspiracy theories, and election denialism. Jordan cannot be trusted to uphold the Constitution or our democracy. Juan Ciscomani, David Schweikert, and the other Republicans who have voted for him today are proving they do not stand on the side of the American people who elected them in the first place – but with Donald Trump, Jim Jordan, and their other MAGA Republican extremist allies in Congress.”
