Washington, D.C. – An inadvertently shared GOP memo reported by the Hill last night shows the MAGA House Republicans on the Homeland Security Committee had pre-planned an impeachment markup of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for January 31 — all before holding a single hearing. This next step in a bogus, pre-planned, and predetermined impeachment comes without a single shred of evidence of impeachable offenses, and without testimony from Mayorkas himself.
In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“Setting a date for marking up an impeachment resolution before holding a single impeachment hearing is the definition of a sham. This impeachment is a baseless and unconstitutional political stunt played out by the MAGA House Republicans, all to harm Secretary Mayorkas and President Biden and help Donald Trump return to the White House in 2024. MAGA House Republicans continue to focus on their partisan political stunts, rather than the important issues affecting Americans across the country including bipartisan solutions to our broken and outdated immigration system.”
