Washington, D.C. – This week, in preparation for this week’s bogus impeachment hearing of Homeland Security Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, House Republicans continue to say the quiet part out loud: impeachment attempts of Secretary Mayorkas are all a political stunt and there is no evidence of wrongdoing by the Secretary. Even Republican Senator James Lankford, one of the GOP leaders on immigration negotiations, said that the House Republicans’ attempts to impeach Secretary Mayorkas were based on policy differences.

In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:

“Even Republican senators are willing to say that these impeachment attempts by House Republicans are about policy differences, not actual impeachable offenses. MAGA Republicans are using our broken and outdated immigration system as an endless crisis to campaign on, refusing to come to the table to strike bipartisan deals that will actually address the issues. They have wasted all of 2023 investigating people like President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas and failed to find a single shred of wrongdoing. This is merely an attempt to score political points and hurt the Biden presidency, all to help Donald Trump return to the White House.”
