Washington, D.C. – Today, MAGA Republicans in Congress passed a bogus contempt resolution against Attorney General Merrick Garland. This vote is nothing more than a blatant political stunt designed to help convicted felon Donald Trump and is part of a larger trend of Republicans threatening the Department of Justice and law enforcement officials when they don’t get their way. It’s no coincidence that this contempt vote was scheduled on the eve of Trump and his cronies gathering on Thursday to plan their next attempt at subverting our democracy.

In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director Kyle Herrig said the following:

“Today’s contempt vote shows the sad state of the current MAGA House Republican caucus. Rather than work with Democrats to address the important issues keeping everyday Americans up at night, MAGA House Republicans are once again supporting general lawlessness. From a convicted felon vowing to pardon people who stormed the Capitol on January 6th, to Jim Jordan ignoring his own subpoena for over 700 days while attacking prosecutors for doing their jobs, MAGA Republicans continue to prove just how extreme they are. Republicans will promise to be the party of law and order except when the criminals are in their own ranks.”
