Washington, D.C. – Today, Hunter Biden reached a deal to plead guilty to federal tax misdemeanor charges and enter a probation agreement on gun felony charges. MAGA Republicans are already foaming at the mouth in response, despite the fact that the deal was reached with a Trump-appointed U.S. attorney after a thorough five year investigation. Also this morning, a new report was released detailing the controversy surrounding Donald Trump’s real estate deal with a Saudi firm in Oman – to which Republicans have remained, unsurprisingly, silent. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“The contrast between Donald Trump and his MAGA defenders and Hunter Biden couldn’t be more clear. While James Comer, Jim Jordan and MAGA Republicans run interference for Donald Trump, hypocritically and shamelessly defending him at every turn, they are attacking Hunter Biden for taking responsibility for his actions. The Department of Justice and Trump’s appointed U.S. attorney had broad discretion to investigate Hunter’s business dealings during the five year investigation. Comer and MAGA Republicans believe their unfounded conspiracy theories cooked up by the likes of Rudy Giuliani should hold sway instead of an exhaustive investigation by a Trump-appointed prosecutor all while ignoring Trump’s numerous conflicts of interest and alleged criminal activity, and defending him at every turn.”
