Washington, D.C. – Today, MAGA House Republicans held a second field hearing on immigration and the southern border. Once again, the hearing was a political stunt, filled with attacks against President Biden and conspiracy theories from Republican members and their radical right-wing witnesses. These witnesses have histories of violating U.S. immigration law and pushing white nationalist rhetoric. In response, Congressional Integrity Project Executive Director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“This trip to the southern border is simply another political stunt for MAGA House Republicans who continue to show they don’t actually care about the issues facing Americans and are solely focused on hurting President Biden in an attempt to gain more political power for themselves. There is no doubt that these MAGA lawmakers care more about scoring points with their far-right base than actually solving immigration or fixing the border. Their hearings have been straight out of the Trump playbook with far-right witnesses and blatant lies. If we learned anything from this hearing it’s that MAGA Republicans cannot be trusted to conduct fair and legitimate investigations.”
