Washington, D.C. – Today, MAGA House Republicans voted once again on a contempt resolution against Attorney General Merrick Garland. The inherent contempt resolution which would have fined the Attorney General narrowly failed with only a few Republicans voting against the blatant political stunt.
In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director Kyle Herrig said the following:
“The MAGA Trump cult came within a handful of votes of fining the Attorney General – the top law enforcement official in the country – for doing his job. This outrageous political stunt came within a whisker of succeeding which would have created an unprecedented constitutional crisis between two of our three branches of government in yet another example of how MAGA Republicans have been entirely focused on the wrong priorities. Today’s vote was supported by swing district Republicans who are already fighting for their political lives and who should be delivering for their constituents instead of only delivering for convicted felon Donald Trump.”
