Washington, D.C. – Today, Jim Jordan, Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, sent a letter to the Fulton County District Attorney requesting records on details of any use of federal funds and/or communications with the Department of Justice or Jack Smith during their investigation into Donald Trump and his allies. This is on the same day Trump is due to surrender for arrest in Georgia. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“This latest move by Jordan is a clear example of the weaponization of the MAGA House majority against the rule of law and in defense of Donald Trump. No matter the evidence, Jordan and his fellow MAGA Republicans will turn a blind eye to Trump’s corruption and completely ignore the important issues that actually matter to the American people, all to do the bidding of their disgraced, repeatedly inducted former President. When Donald Trump said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and wouldn’t lose support, it was sycophants like Jim Jordan he was referring to. Sad.”
