Washington, D.C. – Today, the MAGA Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on the FBI featuring testimony from FBI Director Christopher Wray that devolved quickly into a conspiracy theory-filled mess. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“Today’s hearing was a bogus political stunt full of debunked conspiracy theories, baseless accusations, threats to defund the FBI, and complaints about January 6th insurrectionists being prosecuted. MAGA Republicans continue to push partisan political stunts, despite repeatedly failing to produce their so-called bombshell evidence. They have ramped up calls to defund the FBI and DOJ – including in this hearing – following their leader former president Donald Trump’s request for them to do so. They have made clear that when Trump asks them to jump they will ask ‘how high?’ no matter the costs to their constituents and the country.”
