Washington, D.C. – Today, Jim Jordan is holding a hearing on oversight of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This hearing follows the National Rifle Association’s endorsement of Donald Trump and his keynote speech at the NRA annual meeting. During Donald Trump’s speech, he promised to roll back every gun violence prevention measure that President Biden has enacted, and proposed a third term for himself.
There is no doubt that Jim Jordan and his fellow MAGA Republicans on the Judiciary Committee will use this hearing to attack the ATF and the Biden administration’s actions to tackle gun violence, while repeating Donald Trump and the NRA’s talking points, just as they did in yesterday’s House Weaponization Subcommittee hearing on the ATF.
In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“Once again, Jim Jordan is putting Donald Trump and politics above the American people – no matter the human cost. There is broad bipartisan support in this country for common sense gun violence prevention measures but Jordan is holding hearings to attack these measures and the Biden administration, and parrot the NRA. This is just the latest example of Jim Jordan using his committees to attack President Biden in a blatant and pathetic attempt to help Donald Trump and his allies, while ignoring the priorities the American people care about.”
