Washington, D.C. – Today, MAGA Republicans on the House Oversight Committee announced a new partisan investigation into the train derailment in Ohio targeting the Department of Transportation. In response, Congressional Integrity Project Senior Advisor, Brad Woodhouse, issued the following statement:
“James Comer and MAGA Republicans continue to be consumed by political stunts, even stooping so low as to see a national tragedy as a means to score more ultra-MAGA points. Instead of doing some real good and looking into their leader Donald Trump’s role in the derailment after he rolled back regulations that were intended to prevent train derailments and chemical spills, they are only going after President Biden and his administration. They have made clear that their overarching goal is to weaken President Biden and Democrats and this is yet another example of them putting politics above the American people who need their help. Comer and his Committee should be investigating other dangerous regulation rollbacks from the Trump administration and try to prevent another horrific incident like this one.”
