Washington, D.C. – Last night, Donald Trump endorsed House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Trump campaign) for re-election, citing the bogus impeachment effort of President Biden as a reason for his support. It should come as no surprise since Comer has spent over a year using his position as Oversight Chairman to help Trump. Comer has relentlessly investigated President Biden despite failing to find a single shred of evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden, let alone an impeachable offense. Last week, James Comer showed even more unwavering devotion to Donald Trump, pushing his committee’s markup to dusk, just so Oversight Republicans could take a field trip to New York to attend Trump’s trial for business fraud associated with hiding sex with a porn star from voters.
In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“Everything James Comer has done in Congress is about helping Donald Trump and hurting President Biden. Comer is Trump’s stooge in Congress, wasting nearly two years with the gavel on political stunts to help Trump and hurt President Biden. Comer and his fellow MAGA House Republicans put their sycophantic loyalty to Trump over doing the work they were elected to do for the American people like addressing border security and the cost of living. This has always been about politics and one MAGA politician scratching the back of another.”
