Washington, D.C. – Today, new reporting highlighted James Comer’s latest belly flop in finding a justification for impeaching President Biden. After turning up nothing after nine months of investigations, Comer once again failed to find any evidence of wrongdoing in the latest batch of unredacted emails. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:

“Kevin McCarthy is not the only MAGA House Republican having a horrible week. Once again, James Comer dug through more emails, only to find no actual evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden. Comer keeps promising that more documents or an impeachment inquiry will turn up evidence of wrongdoing, but today is just the latest in his string of failures. Comer and MAGA House Republicans are pushing a fact-free impeachment inquiry to distract from Donald Trump’s legal troubles and their failure to govern.”

Politico: “Yet The Emails Are Another Example Of The House GOP Failing To Turn Up Evidence They’ve Assured The Public Exists.” “McCarthy and his allies insisted that opening a formal impeachment inquiry would empower them to dig deeper. Yet the emails are another example of the House GOP failing to turn up evidence they’ve assured the public exists and that will implicate Biden in some form of corruption that rises to an impeachable offense. Many Republicans have acknowledged they do not have documentation showing Biden profited from his son’s business dealings — or let it impact his policy actions as vice president. Their theory relies on innuendo about email and text exchanges involving Hunter.” [Politico, 9/21/23]

Washington Post: House GOP Briefed On Biden Ukraine Emails, But Little New Information Emerges. “On Thursday, staff members for the House Oversight Committee were briefed on the first set of documents the Archives had prepared in response to the request: four emails that revealed Biden family scheduling; a humorous exchange about Biden’s status as a ‘new Georgian sex symbol’; and praise from the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine for Joe Biden’s other son, Beau, who has since died, according to people with knowledge of the documents’ contents. None of the emails were related to Hunter Biden’s work on the board of Ukrainian company Burisma. […] But Thursday’s episode provided the latest example of documents and testimony that House Republicans chased down only to discover they did not substantiate allegations that Biden benefited from Hunter’s business dealings or used his office to assist them.” [Washington Post, 9/21/23]
