Washington, D.C. – Yesterday at his presidential campaign launch event, former governor Chris Christie called out the “grift” of the Trump family’s influence peddling during their time in the White House. He said, “The grift from this family is breathtaking. Jared Kushner and Ivanka Kushner walked out of the White House and months later got $2 billion from the Saudi’s […] Do you think it was because he was sitting next to the President of the United States for four years and doing favors for the Saudi’s […] You know what that makes us? A banana republic.”
In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement.
“When even Republican Chris “Bridgegate” Christie can acknowledge and campaign off the influence peddling and backroom deals done by the Trump family during their time in the White House, it is well past time for James Comer to start investigating the clear wrongdoing. Comer repeatedly claimed he would investigate the Trump family’s corruption, but the American people are tired of waiting for him to stop stalling. At every turn, Comer chooses to blatantly ignore the corruption from the Trump White House and instead conduct illegitimate investigations into President Biden – all to harm the President and the Democrats while hyping up their disgraced former president.”
Earlier this summer, Congressional Integrity Project launched a six-figure months-long campaign to pressure Republicans and James Comer to investigate the Trump family’s influence peddling. The campaign includes a new website, TrumpFamilyInfluencePeddling.com, where visitors can find just some of the instances of foreign business dealings and influence peddling by Trump, his children, and his son-in-law that should be investigated. The campaign also includes a billboard in Comer’s district in Frankfort, Kentucky, calling on Comer and his constituents to visit the site and urge Comer to stop his partisan stunts and start investigating the influence peddling and corruption done by the Trump Family as well as digital ads.
