Washington, D.C. – Today, House Republicans hosted another political stunt hearing on the border to set up a bogus impeachment attempt against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas. Republicans recycled the same extreme witnesses who testified before Congress in previous weeks because they know they do not have any credible evidence to support their claims. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“MAGA Republicans reek of desperation while trying to dig up a credible reason for Secretary Mayorkas to be impeached and have resorted to filling hearings with far-right witnesses and blatant lies. This whole stunt is just political payment and Marjorie Taylor Greene’s ‘dessert’ to go along with her so-called ‘shit sandwich’ of a debt ceiling deal. There is no doubt that these MAGA representatives care more about scoring points with their far-right base than actually solving immigration or fixing the border. MAGA Republicans in Congress continue to prove they have no credibility and cannot be trusted to conduct fair and legitimate investigations.”
