Washington, D.C. – Today, the House Homeland Security Committee announced a markup of articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, even though the committee has found no evidence whatsoever of impeachable offenses by the secretary. This all comes on the heels of a newly leaked memo that shows Republicans never even cared about the facts all along; they planned to move forward with the proceedings even before any hearing, evidence, or testimony was given. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:

“This impeachment attempt of Secretary Mayorkas is nothing but a pre-planned, predetermined, unconstitutional political stunt to distract from MAGA House Republicans’ year of legislative failures and help Donald Trump return to the White House. The committee spent nearly all of last year investigating Secretary Mayorkas and has failed to turn up a single shred of evidence of wrongdoing whatsoever. MAGA House Republicans continue to play politics while ignoring the important priorities of the American people and refusing to come to the table to address our broken and outdated immigration system.”
