Washington, D.C. – Today, Republican Congressman Ken Buck called House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s recent impeachment push a “shiny object”, designed to distract from the Republicans’ disagreements over appropriations bill. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director Kyle Herrig said the following:
“For once, we can say we absolutely agree with a Republican. Congressman Buck is right: Kevin McCarthy’s recent push for impeachment is simply designed to distract from the fact that Republicans in Congress can’t stop bickering amongst themselves long enough to get anything done. Kevin McCarthy has no power over his party but has ceded all control to the de facto Speaker, Donald Trump.”
