Washington, D.C. – New reporting once again confirms that Donald Trump is the one really pulling the strings of the Republican-led House. After Trump posted that he is the subject of yet another criminal investigation – this time as part of the DOJ’s January 6th investigation – reports say he held a strategy session with House Republican leadership. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“If anyone had any doubt that Donald Trump is the de facto Speaker of the MAGA Republican led House and the undisputed leader of the MAGA cult, look no farther than the willingness of his allies to come to his defense no matter the charge or the strength of the evidence against him. When Donald Trump says jump Kevin McCarthy, Jim Jordan and Jamie Comer say ‘how high?’ even if the demand is to use the taxpayer-funded investigative powers of House committees to act as his defense counsel.
“MAGA Republicans are willing to set aside every priority the American people care about – access to affordable health care, the cost of living, and job creation – to do Donald Trump’s bidding. This is the same man who just this year has been found by a civil jury to have sexually assaulted E. Jean Carroll, who has been indicted for hush money payments to a porn star, and who has been indicted for violations of the espionage act. These same Republicans were the self-proclaimed party of law enforcement and they are now attacking and intimidating the FBI, the Department of Justice, and local prosecutors all because they are doing their job to hold Trump accountable for his criminal conduct.”
