Washington, D.C. – Today, the MAGA House Republicans announced they would officially send articles of impeachment for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate on April 10th. They have wasted the past year investigating the Secretary and voted for impeachment without a single shred of evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“The impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas continues to be nothing but a political stunt. After rushing through the House impeachment and claiming it was a matter of national security, MAGA House Republicans held the articles for over a month. Under the direction of Donald Trump, House Republicans refused to seriously consider bipartisan border security legislation while moving forward with an impeachment that had no evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors and bipartisan opposition. Desperate to cling to his role as Speaker, MAGA Mike Johnson is pursuing a baseless impeachment instead of working on issues important to the American people.”
