Rep. Ayanna Pressley Demands Congressional Hearing with Survivors of Epstein Abuse, While Congressional Republicans Refuse to Act and Prioritize Protecting Trump Instead
WASHINGTON, D.C. — As Democrats on the House Oversight Committee call for a Congressional hearing to hear firsthand from survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s horrific abuse, Congressional Republicans, including Oversight Chair James Comer, are busy covering up for Trump’s refusal to release the Epstein files and launching sham investigations instead.
Instead, Comer is wasting time defending Trump’s lies by threatening to drag the mayor of Washington, D.C. and other officials to Capitol Hill to prop up Trump’s false claims of rampant violence. Meanwhile, Comer refuses to examine systematic campaign finance violations by Republican fundraising platform WinRed, instead launching baseless attacks against Democratic platform ActBlue. This pattern of selective enforcement demonstrates exactly where Comer’s priorities lie—not with providing Americans the meaningful oversight they deserve from the committee he chairs, but with protecting Trump from his documented relationship with Epstein and attacking Democrats.
In response to Republicans’ continued failure to fulfill their oversight responsibilities while launching politically motivated investigations, the Congressional Integrity Project released the following statement:
“While Representative Pressley and her Democratic colleagues are fighting to give survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s horrific abuse a voice and platform, James Comer and House Republicans are too busy manufacturing distractions and propping up Trump’s lies to care about the real victims. Instead of focusing on justice for survivors and demanding an explanation from Trump about his refusal to release the Epstein files, Comer wastes taxpayer time and resources on sham hearings designed to legitimize Trump’s false narratives about D.C. crime.
“This is exactly the kind of performative politics that puts partisan games ahead of the people who deserve to be heard. Democrats are calling for accountability and justice; Republicans are calling for more cover-ups and distractions. Comer’s refusal to hold hearings for Epstein survivors while simultaneously launching baseless investigations into ActBlue shows his true priorities—protecting Trump and his cronies by attacking Democrats while failing miserably to bring justice to those who have suffered real harm.”
