Washington, D.C. – Last night, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy threatened that Republicans would move forward with an impeachment inquiry into President Biden if his administration doesn’t turn over all the documents they want. A staffer on the House Oversight Committee told The Hill that the documents McCarthy mentioned had not been requested from the White House. This comes weeks after James Comer said his committee has already received 100% of the documents they requested. In an all too common occurrence, it is clear that McCarthy is just engaged in one political stunt after another to harm President Biden and help Donald Trump who will be arrested in Atlanta tomorrow.

In response, Congressional Integrity Project senior advisor, Leslie Dach, issued the following statement:

“After eight months of House Republicans failing to find any evidence against President Biden they are still planning to launch a bogus impeachment inquiry – timed to distract from a government shutdown and Donald Trump’s 91 criminal charges across multiple jurisdictions. McCarthy knows he has to appease the crazies in his caucus and appease Donald Trump. He can’t find any proof so now he wants to start an impeachment inquiry over documents Republicans haven’t even requested  – talk about desperation and wrong priorities – proving once again that all they care about is political stunts leading up to the 2024 election.”
