NEW: Trump Administration Deploying Counterterrorism Resources Against Political Opponents

Apr 10, 2026

Washington, D.C. — New reporting reveals that, in the midst of foreign and domestic crises, the Trump administration is redirecting counterterrorism resources away from genuine threats and toward their political opponents, and pressuring international allies to do the same. The Justice Department’s own data, which the administration tried to scrub from the internet, shows that in the last thirty-five years, there have been more than five times as many attacks from right-wing domestic extremists than left-wing groups.

In response, Congressional Integrity Project Senior Advisor Kyle Herrig released the following statement:

“There are very real crises requiring this administration’s attention at home and abroad. But rather than give our federal law enforcement the tools they need to keep Americans safe, they’re being told to investigate Donald Trump’s domestic political opponents instead. Real threats are being ignored while counterterrorism resources are weaponized against Americans, civil society organizations, and nonprofits. The Justice Department tried to bury its own data proving where the real danger lies, and now they’re siccing our national security agencies on Trump’s enemies list for nothing more than politics, greed, and grift. It’s rank abuse of power, and puts a target on the back of anyone who disagrees with the President.”
