New Reporting Exposes Right-Wing Media Payola Scandal — Where Is James Comer’s Investigation?

Mar 26, 2026

Washington, D.C. — New reporting from The Bulwark has revealed that convicted Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his business partner orchestrated a scheme to secretly pay conservative media figures — including writers at the Daily Caller, Townhall, RedState, and Newsmax — to publish undisclosed paid promotions for a fraudulent cryptocurrency called AML Bitcoin. All in all, almost $13,000 in payments were made to a network of conservative commentators, which resulted in ghostwritten articles being passed off as journalism for the sole purpose of duping Americans out of their money.

In response, Congressional Integrity Project Senior Advisor Kyle Herrig released the following statement:

“James Comer has made a career out of launching splashy investigations into progressive nonprofits and civil society organizations. Yet when a documented scheme to secretly pay right-wing media to peddle a crypto scam lands in his lap, he’s nowhere to be found. The corruption is staring him in the face: a lobbyist’s spreadsheet, stories bought and paid for, and real Americans losing real money because they trusted what they thought was journalism. If Comer won’t investigate this scandal, then his committee isn’t doing legitimate oversight. The American people deserve better than a watchdog that only barks in one direction.”
