Biden-18 Republicans Must Stand Up to Their MAGA Colleagues Who Are Prioritizing a No-Evidence Impeachment Hearing to Steal Focus from a Potential Government Shutdown of Their Own Creation

Washington, D.C. – This week, as America approaches a government shutdown thanks to extreme MAGA Republicans’ inability to govern, James Comer is holding the first impeachment hearing, which will feature no new evidence of wrongdoing, while House Republicans in the Biden 18 Districts — including Rep. Kean, Jr. — do nothing to keep their colleagues from taking the federal government over the edge. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:

“MAGA Republicans have made their wrong priorities clear: rushing an impeachment hearing with no fact witnesses and no new evidence while doing nothing to prevent the looming government shutdown entirely of their own making. In fact, Donald Trump has called for a shutdown because he mistakenly believes that it will tarnish the President, and Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and others like them are all too happy to comply. This impeachment hearing is an embarrassing attempt to distract from the fact that Republicans have the totally wrong priorities and will shut down the government instead of actually focusing on the real issues keeping working families up at night.

“Rep. Kean, Jr. has a responsibility to his constituents to stand up to MAGA Republicans in the House, to oppose this bogus impeachment inquiry, and focus on the priorities he was sent to Washington to address. He must reject any attempts from his MAGA colleagues to hide the chaos of an impending government shutdown of their own creation and do what’s best for his constituents back home who see right through this political stunt.”

According to recent polling, a majority of Americans in key swing districts disapprove of Republicans in Congress. These Republicans will be underwater if they continue to focus on partisan stunts and impeachment rather than addressing the important issues facing the American people, like the economy and the cost of living for working families. 56% of voters in those districts believe an impeachment inquiry would be a “partisan political stunt,” while 55% said the effort would be designed to benefit Trump, compared to just 41% who said it would be aimed at fact-finding.
