Washington, D.C. – House Republicans are once again engaged in outrageous political stunts – pushing bogus articles of impeachment against President Biden instead of focusing on issues the American people care about. It is no coincidence that this comes shortly after Donald Trump was indicted on 37 felony counts over his improper handling of classified documents. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“MAGA Republicans are desperate to distract from their failed former President Donald Trump’s 37 felony indictments and this bogus impeachment stunt against President Biden is just another example of how far they are willing to go. They would rather waste time rehashing debunked conspiracy theories about President Biden than actually work to solve the problems the American people are facing. Their priority is trying to get Trump re-elected in 2024 and advance an extreme MAGA agenda instead of addressing the issues their constituents care about like health care, jobs, and reducing gun violence. House Republicans continue to make a mockery of themselves and our democracy.
“The truth is, President Biden has done nothing to warrant impeachment and Republicans know it. What they really fear is that President Biden has an unimpeachable record to run on — creating millions of jobs, lowering health care and prescription drug costs, passing an historic infrastructure law, and putting the pandemic in the rearview mirror. Republicans can’t compete with that record so they are engaging in more political stunts. Americans will see this artificial, manufactured outrage for what it is.”
