All December, the Congressional Integrity Project introduced one of Donald Trump’s staunchest MAGA allies – Representative James Comer. Just last month, the American people rejected the extreme MAGA agenda and said they want our leaders to focus on solving the real problems they face. But MAGA Republicans aren’t listening. As soon as they won the House, they immediately turned to the Trump playbook of political attacks, stunts, and partisan warfare. Investigations under the new Republican-led committees will be conducted following the Trump playbook: divisive and politically motivated attacks on President Biden, his family, and his administration at any cost, all to increase Comer’s own power to pursue the radical agenda of his MAGA allies.
MAGA Republican. We’ve shown how Comer will always do the bidding of Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican allies in order to gain power and enact their extremist agenda to take away our rights. Comer sent a letter requesting hearings on the “integrity” of the 2020 election, made excuses for Trump when he incited a violent mob to attack the Capitol and stop the peaceful transfer of power, and undermined the bipartisan investigation into the plot to overturn the 2020 election.
Hypocrite. While planning on investigating President Biden, his family, and the current administration, Comer turned a convenient blind eye to President Trump and his family’s foreign entanglements and businesses and Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump’s skyrocketing net worth while working for the Trump Administration.
Out of Touch Extremist. Comer is extreme on the issues that matter most to the American people. He is the co-sponsor of the national abortion ban bill, voted against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, and voted against same sex marriage. He is a member of the extremist Republican Study Committee, which among other things wants to cut Social Security and Medicare and allow insurance companies to deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions.
Power Hungry Partisan. Before the midterm elections, Comer made it clear that he hoped partisan investigations would cause President Biden to not seek reelection in 2024. Comer also said he believes the House Oversight Committee chairmanship will boost his influence in Congress, saying he believes it will be the most important job in Congress other than being Speaker.
James Comer has flown under the radar in Congress – but not anymore. The incoming MAGA majority in the House has talked exclusively about mounting politically motivated investigations against President Biden, his family and administration since the race for House control was called – and James Comer will have the most powerful gavel to do so come January. We’re not waiting – Comer must be called out for his extreme, partisan agenda designed only to help himself and Republicans, not the American people.
