Washington, D.C. – This weekend, at a Young Republicans event in New York City, Marjorie Taylor Greene commented that January 6th would have played out very differently if she had organized the attack on our country. She said with her in charge the mob would have been fully armed and that the insurrection would have succeeded in overturning a free and fair election. In response, Congressional Integrity Project Senior Advisor, Brad Woodhouse said the following:
“If Marjorie Taylor Greene had her way, January 6th would have had more violence against law enforcement and members of Congress, and the MAGA Republican conspiracy to overturn the election would have succeeded. Her comments this weekend are dangerous and they promote and glorify MAGA-led right-wing political violence against anyone who gets in their way.
“Instead of reining in her violent rhetoric, MAGA Republican leaders are pledging to make her radical and dangerous views even more prominent. They are preparing to give her a seat on the House Oversight Committee – one of the most powerful committees in Congress. The committee’s incoming chairman, James Comer, has pledged to go along with Marjorie Taylor Greene and do nothing but engage in outrageous investigations against the president and his family. In exchange for her support for becoming Speaker, Kevin McCarthy has agreed to her demands that the new MAGA majority in the House investigate Nancy Pelosi and the Justice Department’s treatment of the violent extremists who stormed the Capitol and prevented the peaceful transfer of power for the first time in American history.
“‘It’s with this violent extremist member of congress at the center of the action, that MAGA Republicans like Comer and incoming Judiciary Committee chair, Jim Jordan, will launch spurious, conspiracy theory-laden investigations that have one purpose – damage President Biden and Democrats politically and give themselves more power to enact a radical right-wing agenda. In their quest for power, Republican leaders don’t care that amplifying MAGA extremists like Marjorie Taylor Greene will lead to more hateful rhetoric and violence.”
