Washington, D.C. – In order to secure votes for Speaker of the House, Rep. Steve Scalise reassured members that he will continue to bow to the ultra-right-wing flank of the House by continuing to pursue an evidence-free impeachment of President Biden and defunding the Department of Justice to protect Trump. In response, Congressional Integrity Project senior advisor, Leslie Dach, issued the following statement:
“Steve Scalise is catering to the extreme MAGA wing of the GOP caucus, promising to advance an evidence-free impeachment to win votes for his Speaker bid. Even after their own witnesses said there was no evidence for the impeachment inquiry, House Republicans continue to focus on the wrong, extreme MAGA priorities, instead of focusing on the issues keeping working families up at night. It’s clear that no matter which House Republican holds the gavel, the extreme MAGA House Republican caucus will continue to prioritize the political desires of the extreme wings of their caucus over the needs of working families.”
