Washington, D.C. – As President Biden mentioned in his speech at Valley Forge yesterday, our democracy continues to be under attack by Donald Trump and his MAGA allies. Three years ago today, Donald Trump and his MAGA allies incited a deadly insurrection at our nation’s Capitol, the culmination of a criminal conspiracy to overturn an election they knew Trump lost.
On this three-year anniversary, the Congressional Integrity Project released a new report titled Democracy At Stake: The Same MAGA Republicans Behind January 6th Are Leading The Bogus Impeachment Effort Against President Biden. The report highlights the efforts Donald Trump and his MAGA allies took to overthrow the 2020 election, as exposed by the January 6th Select Committee, and how Donald Trump and his MAGA allies in Congress are still threatening our democracy today by pursuing an evidence-free impeachment against President Biden.
With the new report, CIP also released a video from former January 6th Select Committee Spokeswoman and Congressional Integrity Project senior communications advisor Hannah Muldavin. In the video, Hannah reviews the actions that Donald Trump and his allies took to overturn the 2020 election, ultimately leading to the deadly insurrection at the Capitol.
Congressional Integrity Project executive director Kyle Herrig issued the following statement:
“The same MAGA Republicans who led Donald Trump’s deadly insurrection and attempt to overthrow an election he knew he lost, are the same ones pushing the bogus impeachment of President Biden. MAGA Republicans are a threat to all Americans and our democracy. They will stop at nothing to pursue their radical, out-of-touch agenda, including violence. All of their actions on behalf of the disgraced former president in an attempt to distract from his 91 criminal indictments and help him return to the White House in 2024 – and they don’t care who stands in their way.”
