Washington, D.C. – Tonight, the MAGA Republicans on the House Rules Committee will hold a hearing to prepare the evidence-free articles of impeachment against Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas ahead of a vote on the House floor. Last Wednesday, in the dead of night when no one was watching, Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee moved this baseless impeachment attempt to the next step, without a single shred of evidence of wrongdoing or holding a hearing for the Secretary to testify on his behalf. Every day Republicans continue these political stunts is another day that they are failing to get anything done on the real issues that matter to the American people like the economy and access to health care. In response, Congressional Integrity Project executive director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:

“Once again, MAGA House Republicans are proving that they care more about political stunts and helping Donald Trump than actually fixing problems like our immigration system.  They are trying to impeach Secretary Mayorkas over policy differences in a pre-planned, predetermined, unconstitutional political stunt, all while MAGA Mike Johnson is declaring a proposed bipartisan deal in the Senate to resolve some of these policy differences ‘dead on arrival.’ This is all a distraction from MAGA House Republicans’ year of legislative failures and Trump’s 91 criminal indictments, all to help him return to the White House.”
