Washington D.C. – Today, House Oversight Republicans used their powerful platform and resources to hold a hearing where they threatened witnesses and spread conspiracy theories and false smears, attacking a private company in a blatant but failed attempt to hurt President Biden and his family. In response, Congressional Integrity Project Executive Director, Kyle Herrig, issued the following statement:
“Today’s hearing was nothing more than a bizarre political stunt. Rather than focusing on real issues – like those outlined by President Biden last night – House Oversight Republicans accomplished nothing today. They failed to prove anything in their so-called influence peddling investigation of President Biden, and in fact they did more harm to their cause than anything else. Anyone with eyes can see there was no there there. On the MAGA Republican side, the hearing predictably devolved into a QAnon conspiracy-filled, anti-vax mess, with Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert wasting taxpayer dollars by essentially using the hearing to file customer service complaints with Twitter. Once again, Republicans have proven that they are too focused on political attacks and attempts to weaken President Biden and Democrats to be trusted to conduct fair and credible investigations.”
